Ms. Freeman joined the BSU School of Nursing as a part-time faculty member in 1999 and transitioned to a full-time faculty position in 2001. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila, Philippines in 1969 and a master’s of science in nursing with an adult nurse practitioner concentration from Ball State University in 1999. Ms. Freeman has taught a number of undergraduate nursing courses including health assessment, fundamental nursing skills, and four medical surgical nursing courses. She participated in and facilitated a number of clinical simulations in the School of Nursing’s Simulation and Information Technology Center for undergraduate nursing courses.

Ms. Freeman was one of the initial interprofessional team members who participated in the T3 Train -the-Trainer faculty development workshop to assist interprofessional teams to lead interprofessional activities of their institution. She served on the inaugural College of Health (COH) Interprofessional Education and Practice Committee and participated in several COH student interprofessional education events. Through the Office of Institutional Diversity, she served as a mentor for minority nursing students interested in pursuing graduate school.

Ms. Freeman was recognized for Excellence in Nursing from Tampa General Hospital, Excellence in Nursing in Critical Care from Indiana University (IU) Health Ball Memorial Hospital, and Excellence in Nursing Education from the Philippine Nurses Association of Indiana (PNA-IN) awarded at the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) North Central Regional Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

She received a full scholarship for her nurse practitioner program from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She received the BSU School of Nursing Outstanding Teacher Award and has been selected a number of times by the senior nursing students to serve as the class advisor for the pinning ceremony. Ms. Freeman has been recognized for working with veterans and has received the Platinum Award from the Veterans Affairs for Patient Aligned Care Team.

As testament for the outstanding professional and personal achievements of Ms. Freeman, she was endorsed to receive this award by the Ball State University Director of School of Nursing, College Dean and Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs thereby, leading to the BSU Board of Trustees to grant her this prestigious honor as the “Clinical Lecturer Honorata of Nursing upon her retirement at the BSU Omega Dinner held on April 26, 2019 at the BSU Alumni Center
